Stav Street Residential Building Restoration

PROBLEM
Stone cladding tiles began detaching and falling off
a residential building only five years after its construction. The
cause of the damage was diagnosed as corrosion of the building’s
concrete reinforcement and cladding anchors. After seven years
of legal litigation (12 years from construction), it was ruled that
restoration should include drilling and injection of MCI®-2020 Gel
corrosion inhibitors.

Restoration of Ben-Gurion Street Residential Building

PROBLEM
Stone cladding tiles began detaching and falling off a residential
building only 15 years after construction. An initial repair done
to re-anchor the tiles was conducted without MCI®. In the following
years, tiles continued to fall, and exposed concrete began to
delaminate. The cause of the damage was identified as corrosion
of the building’s concrete reinforcement and cladding anchors. As
the rebar corroded it expanded, pushing out on the tiles and making
them wobble. A second repair was in order only 25 years after
construction following an expensive and ineffective first repair.

Restoration of Concrete Foundations at Carmel Olefins

PROBLEM
Dozens of cubic meters of concrete foundations that
support heavy equipment in a polyethylene/polypropylene
plant had suffered significant corrosion damage.
This is common in aggressive environments saturated
with chemicals. Embedded rebar had corroded and expanded,
causing the concrete to crack and delaminate in
many areas. Renovation required a long-term perspective
without stopping the plant’s production.

APPLICATION
The chosen solution addressed three aspects of concrete
preservation.

Extending Service Life: Sorek Desalination Plant

PROBLEM
Currently, Sorek is the largest reverse-osmosis desalination
plant worldwide. As an infrastructure facility built on the
seashore and designed to process seawater, longevity of the
plant’s concrete was a major concern. Construction plans included
the use of prefabricated concrete jack-pipe segments
(comprising the longest single-push concrete jack-pipe to date:
2.6 m [8.5 ft] ID, 1500 m [4921 ft]), concrete pretreatment sand
filtration bins, and concrete brine water reservoirs.

APPLICATION
Because of the aggressive environment, initial plans were to include
MCI® in all concrete components to protect the rebar reinforcement
and ensure continued service life for the planned
duration.
